Looking Back on the Path Forward
EVE was founded in April 2000 with the intention to develop a new way to do hardware-assisted verification that would allow the productivity only possible with specialized hardware, and without the drawbacks that are commonly associated with current emulation systems.
Co-founder, president and CEO Dr. Luc Burgun and I spoke first early in the company’s life about the company’s strategy. We caught up again recently to reflect on the past, while looking to the challenges ahead.
At the beginning of EVE we started as a service company and after a bit less than two years, we moved from a pure service company to a pure product company. That was a big change for us,” Burgun said. Since that time, EVE has developed multiple generations of its product to expand its market reach. EVE’s acceleration product has been shipping since 2001, while its emulation products hit the market in 2003, with an unarguably positive response from customers. EVE counts nine of the top 10 semiconductors as customers working on networking, communications, multi-media, graphics, computer, and consumer applications.
In addition to the product line and market strategy, the size of the company has grown too. At inception, there were about a dozen employees; now, EVE has more than 100 employees with facilities in America, Europe and Asia.
And though the company has matured and grown in scale, Burgun stressed that he has personally maintained his role in the technical development of its products, along with his CEO duties.
