EverQuest II speaks success!
A month since the 3D fantasy online game EverQuest II ventured onto free-to-play model after 7 years of service has seen dramatic increase on the number of their registered players. Last January 10, 2012, John Smedley who is the president of Sony Online Entertainment has tweeted that EverQuest II saw a 40% increase in daily log-ins since it had transitioned into free-to-play and a 300% increase in new players. It is worth noting that to keep the game running, there must be a way to generate some revenue and this is where the item shop is in service. Players are not obliged and it is their sole discretion if they would want to purchase certain items.
In line with this, with a huge increase in new players, EverQuest II has also seen a 200% increase in item sales. With Sony Online Entertainment keeping their philosophy of free games with no commitment, keeps the classic MMO thriving. This goes to show that the publisher is doing the right thing and they are on the right course leading to success.
