We remember that the guy only picked up 8 whereas in Archlord Warcraft and we found resource collecting slow and tedious. They started at 10 and could advance to 15 then 20 with upgrades. But anyhow, maybe you are being outclassed, or simply out-strategize. Focusing on developing a fortress right off the bat is not good, you should get the structures which needed to build an adequate defensive force at first for whenever your opponent comes at you.
Relying on hard point defenses is not too smart either; your opponent will back off until he obtains the technology. The resources to build an army powerful enough to over come them, unless you are fighting against a Zerg opponent, since a Terran enemy would build up a group of Siege Tanks and Battle Cruisers, likewise the Protoss will build Reavers. And you can be sure that they brought an army to defend the siege units, and possibly a third army to help wipe out your base when the defenses have fallen. Zerg has an advantage in that you can automatically build creep colonies, and from there turn them into sunken colonies. This goes for any race in game (Archlord gold), playing against any smart opponent. However, not building anti-air units/buildings, you will soon find yourself swamped by the air force. The Zerg are disadvantaged, however, by the fact that their ultraists are not ranged siege units. So unless there are like 20 or so, they will be wiped out, and only take down maybe one or two hard point defenses.
